What an adorable book
Loved this magical little book. We gifted it to our son Oliver for his first Christmas. It has an actual story to it with meaning and could reach about the winter season. Very unlike so many kids books today. Obviously not for babies because of the pages which a baby could easily rip, but would make a lovely keepsake and will be a fun Christmas read tradition.

Children who delight in playing in snow will immediately take to this story.
Beskow the master of this genre. Beskow was writing in a different time. She had a relationship with old Northern European folk tales and myths, and a relationship with the landscape, that cannot be replicated today. You may find elements of her stories familiar, while other elements may be captivating surprises. This book is one of her best, in my opinion. Children who delight in playing in snow will immediately take to this story.

Small book but beautiful non the less...
Beautiful book, but SMALL!!! I did not know (should have read the reviews more thoroughly) that this would be a small book about 6 inches tall, not a full size book. We still love it but was hoping for something larger for the beautiful illustrations.

Great book and great author tho
This book is tiny tiny and poorly made. Pages are falling out already. Although the dimensions were listed correctly I didn't notice and therefore didn't expect a 5" book. I got suckered. Great book and great author tho!

A great wintertime story
We love Elsa Beskow, and this story has been added to our collection of holiday books. The book features a young boy having a snow time adventure with Jack Frost and King Winter, and is quite magical. It is nice to have a seasonal book that doesn't focus on Santa and Christmas.

Poor format for this beautiful book .
Was disappointed by the small paperback edition which detracted from the beautiful illustrations in the larger hardback edition. Didn't realise when I ordered it online that it would be in this format .

Lovely story
The story is very endearing and the artwork is absolutely lovely and nostalgic. I really love this story along with other Beskow stories and artwork. Unfortunately Amazon.ca only sells it in the mini version...thus the 3 stars. With artwork such as Beskow's, none should be published so small.

Not what l expected
This book is too small. I bought for a gift to a friend’s kid. Feel disappointed about the size.

A true classic!
I have just discovered Elsa Beskow for my 4-year old and can't get enough of her books. The story line is quite simple - Ollie, a little Swedish boy, receives a pair of skis for his birthday and can't wait to try them out. Finally, it snows and he goes out into the woods and meets Jack Frost who makes sure that the snow in the forest is intact and that Mrs Thaw (who tends to appear in the middle of the winter) is not spoiling the beauty of the winter. Jack Frost then invites the boy to meet King Winter at his snow palace. Ollie has fun with the boys and girls of the court skiing, skating and tobogganing. When it's time to go home, a beautiful reindeer takes Ollie back to his family. It was a long winter that year but finally spring came and Ollie learned about importance of Mrs Thaw's job - she'd been clearing the way for Spring and the new flowers, grass and crops which she brought with her.If you are looking for a book with an important moral lesson - this is definitely not the one for you. This book is about beauty and importance of different seasons which tastefully blends magic with traditional seasonal delights. The book is beautifully illustrated and is a true visual delight for adults and children alike. It's got a true nostalgic feel to it and reminded me of the books I had as a child.

He loved the illustrations and the story
Bought for small boy who was about to be six. He loved the illustrations and the story. With regards to Ollie being rude to the old lady, which he most certainly is, he redeems himself by saying sorry later on.It is a mini edition - but it is easy for small hands to hold because of this, so not necessarily a bad thing.
