Introducing Carbide.
A good valueThey are a good value as tools. They offer a simple introduction to turning for newcomers and a very reasonably priced introduction to carbide tools. One suggestion. Grind the bottom of the set screw flat before using it to gain some additional threads in the hole. If you don't, you will likely grind your next set screw flat after you lose the first one. And if you have not used carbide before, understand these are all scrapers not cutters. Right now they are exactly what I need as I am in the process of moving, have no capability to sharpen steel, but still have an out of control urge to make shavings. They work but I look forward to getting my steel back. Nothing beats the smooth clean cut of sharp steel.

Marginal tool, not recommended.
Set screw that holds different bits is a very weak spot on this tool, not enough threads to hold the bit secure Set screw will fall out during use if you don't check it often. The carbid bits are no as sharp as it expected or would like. I do not recommend this tool.

Disappointed
My girlfriend ordered this cutting tool for me. I was in anticipation of its arrival and putting it to use. As I was removing the chisel from the box the gold ring around the handle fell off. I cleaned the shipping solution from the cutting tools and I could not insert any of them into the the end of the tool. After giving it some thought I decided to go ahead and use my rat tail file to clean up the inside of the business end of the handle. I spent about 10 minutes filing before I could clear the path to insert the cutting tool. I inserted one of the cutting tools into the holder and tightened the set screw that only went in less than a half of turn, and the allen wrench was loose In the head of the set screw. I won't go on about the poor quality of the grind on the business end of the chisel handle. In my opinion the cutting heads were much smaller than I expected. This is my last purchase from this company.

i am new to turning and this tool intrigued me as a way to give carbide tools a test getting 4 tools for the price or one. I like it. I turned about 50 pens over the holidays and after roughing out the blanks with a roughing gouge, this tool was always the one I used for the finishing. The pointed bit is great for detail work. cutters still seem very sharp.

this tool is way over priced , the ferrule fell off right out of the box .the cutters are low grade , they are not for cutting , the will work for scraping , if you can keep the sharp , I would not buy this again .

Came quickly, the tool is of high quality and cuts great. The only thing was a small bur on the inside of the tool from the set screw. To insert the carbide cutter I had to remove this bur with a 1/4" drill, but only a hand turning was required. The tool feels like a high quality tool when you use it, has a great feel to it.

I like it : BUT.
I like the cutters but the handle is poorly made (NOT Benjamin's Best work). I noticed a crack in the wood under the brass ferrule when I opened it and first day of use the ferrule fell off. It is now in the vice waiting for the epoxy to set. The set screw to hold the cutters is too long and the hex wrench that came with it slips when tightening. The plastic chip deflector is good until there is a little vibration, then it moves very close to the turning wood. Don't bother with it. On a different note: I buy PSI stuff because it is the only turning shop close enough for me to drive. I love their Ice Cream Scoop kits but would never buy online because most plating is scratched or defective so you need to be selective. Their mini-lathe has a plastic indexer, replacement is metal but you won't know that until you destroy it and complain.Edit: After using this gouge for a couple of weeks here are further observations; the hex wrench supplied is Metric 3mm and the set screw is 1/8 inch...that is the reason it slips. Another thought...grind a small flat spot on the shaft of the bits so that when the set screw is tightened the bit does not turn inside the handle when turning wood.

Arrived on time
Tool arrived on the day they said it would.. The Allen wrench that came with it did not fit the set screw(too small). Brass sleeve on handle is loose, will have to glue it on. Will post another review after I try the cutters.Second review. Tried cutters. Not sharp. Carbide cutters that I purchased from China were way better and 1\10 the price......

Carbide bits missing, poor QA.
This product arrived today. Clearly a return item, with all the necessary carbide bits missing. The brass fitting on the handle is also loose. I am not pleased at all. I have asked for a new set, and may amend my review based on how that turns out.
