All the old names come back to you!
As I say when you read/look at this book all the old names come back to you, of course in keeping with how old you are?! But for me from the 50's onward are of the most interest, but it must be said that very little would be here now if it wasn't for previous times, in most or all things I would say. It is a well made & presented book, with plenty of nice colour photos, also with captions & more detailed information, I would throughly recommend this book for light research, enjoyment, or just general interest, many thanks!!

Happy memories of the sweet shop and toy shop
I bought this book for Christmas for my 86-year-old father-in-law who has mild Alzheimer's but is already extremely forgetful. He likes reading and on Christmas Day spent ages looking through this, although I didn't have chance to look at it with him. I think he will enjoy going back to it again and again, and as he will forget that he's read it before he will continue to get pleasure from it. I looked through it before wrapping it up for him, and was impressed by the amount and variety of information the book contains, but even for someone who just likes the pictures there is plenty to enjoy here - memories of products old and new, how they have developed and changed over time and a great opportunity for happy reminiscences.

Diana Dors advertising champagne perry, and so much more. . .
A fascinating and useful resource, magnificently well illustrated throughout, covering the Victorian era through to the 1990s. I will reveal just a few gems you will find illustrated: Star vacuum cleaner (1911), Pathephone (1908) Vono spring mattress (1901), lots of Jacob's biscuits (1910s,20s), Cunard poster (1919), Solent table mangle (1930s), Rinso, Lux, Oxydol, Lifebuoy, Omo, Persil and more from the 1930s, a 1939 Mickey Mouse, Brooklands 1000 mile race 1935, Diana Dors advertising the Golden Godwin champagne perry drink in the 1950s, Magic Robot 1950s, AMI Continental jukebox 1961, early 1960s Dr Who items, Cabbage Patch Kids 1983, Sugar Smacks with Joe 90 on the packet and so much more. Not to be missed!

True nostalgia and great value!
I love this pictorial history book even though I've only lived through about half of the period it covers - it traces consumer history from the Victorian Era through to the 1990s. The book (which is around 200 pages long) comprises lavish illustrations interspersed with both social commentary and detail about the items depicted. The book is divided into chapters by decade with the exception of the Victorian and Edwardian eras which have their own self contained sections. Each section of the book covers issues like popular culture, events, products, fashion, leisure, and for more recent decades, film, TV and music etc. As I have mentioned it achieves this pictorially but with some supporting text - to me the book is a bit like a museum on paper but it certainly isn't boring. The book did two things for me - firstly, it showed how the origin of many of todays products go back much further than you'd expect. Secondly, the chapters from the 1950s onwards evoked a sense of nostalgia and recalled events and periods in my life I'd long forgotten. In summary, this is a wonderful book which is beautifully produced by Robert Opie, the "Master of Nostalgia", and, sold by Amazon at a bargain price. Recommended.

Lovely
Bought for Mum after a visit to Abbeycwmhir Hall for their Christmas display, and saw this in the café. Very interesting for the young, memory reminder for the not so young. Could see it would be good for a dementia sufferer.

Lovely book
Lovely book, full of coloured pictures that give a real flavour of the times. Bought one for my elderly mum and have just ordered another for my auntie. I'm sure they'll both love looking through them at Christmas.
