Probably the best thing I have ever bought on Amazon
Let me start by stating the caveats to my review, before giving details. The product is made in China and whilst it seems sturdy, I have only used it for a couple of weeks on a daily basis.I broke my glass cafetiere, and my daughter recommended a metal one. Came quickly via Prime, and box contains spare filters and a whizzy little coffee measure with a clip to close open coffee bags. I prefer cafetiere coffee to the new trend in coffee pods. I find the coffee from pods lacks the bite of newly brewed coffee and they are vastly overpriced. If you buy your beans/ground coffee wisely, a mug of first rate coffee costs about 8-10p compared to about 20-30p from a pod. And you can throw the grounds onto your garden/composting.Unlike some comments, all the parts of this device fitted together perfectly and moved smoothly. I am happy to have the spare filters if it all goes wrong. It looks like it is European modern silverware despite its provenance and the design is fit for purpose. Obviously there is the risk, as with all budget Chinese goods, that it might not stand the test of time, but the welding looks good quality and the metal is robust enough. One good feature is the double wall of the pot, and this means the coffee does not go cold quickly. It has a 350ml capacity, which is enough for one generous mug of coffee or two smaller cups. The big deal for clumsy me is that it will not shatter when dropped: the fate of my last one. The metal does not impart any discernible taste to the coffee, and it cleans easily (to my lowish standards). I have used this on a daily basis for about three weeks. The only negative has been that when the plunger is fully down, it tamps the coffee, so that some swirling is needed to clear the grounds out.I am very pleased with this and would recommend.

Get rid of the glass one and go full metal
Arrived quickly and well packaged with padding although not entirely sure why as this thing is like the chieftain tank of French presses. Extremely robust and well made with a good ergonomic handle on it. This was a replacement after I yet again, knocked my old glass one off the drying rack and watched it shatter as it hit the floor....this one just bounces! No issues with fine-ground coffee if that is your thing - just leave it long enough to brew and it plunges perectly. It is even supplied with spare filters and a well thought out coffee scoop. The double wall really does keep your coffee warmer for longer so no more trips through to the microwave.Really easy to clean, it doesn't even have to go in the top of the dishwasher - which is maybe just as well as I'm not sure it will fit.I really can't fault this French press - functional, easy to clean/maintain, bullet proof, insulated and it even looks good!

Good replacement for a glass cafetiere
**FIRST IMPRESSION REVIEW ONLY (Cannot comment on longevity or aftersales)**SIZE:Makes enough coffee for one person in a mug larger than the average size (but smaller than those large sports direct mugs), or two servings with small cups/saucers. For me I would class it as suitable for one person/drink.POSITIVES:- Retains the heat in while brewing- Straight handle attached high up, makes it easy to hold while pouring with one hand for most people- Filter/press fits in tightly to stop coffee grinds from escaping- Early days but no stray coffee grinds- Includes coffee scoop which also has crocodile teeth for sealing the coffee packet- *Hopefully* much longer lifespan than glass cafetieresNEGATIVES (Subjective)- Cap isn't tight, it never falls off, but it does start to loosen by half a centimetre at higher pouring angles (this design might be intentional for letting the dregs out?)- On my specific unit (perhaps just bad luck), base is not perfectly even so it does rock slightly on a hard flat surface (I place it on a folded disposable kitchen towel to overcome)CAUTION- As a stainless steel item, this may be too heavy and unsuitable for someone physically disabled in the arms/handsDETAILED REVIEWBought this as all my previous glass cafetieres have cracked (it happens). Nice solid item, I hope it will live for a very long time indeed. It is designed to keep the heat in during brewing; It won't keep the heat in as effective as a travelling flask would (why would it? you will be serving shortly), but the sides only get slightly warm so it is keeping most of the heat in there during brewing time, much more than a glass one would, and safer for the hands. The coffee scoop has a long crocodile clip that you can use to seal the coffee packet. Because it's stainless steel, it's easy to clean and doesn't need the beaker removing from the holder as a glass one would. What I especially like is that the handle is a nice straight shape that's easier to hold when pouring than the impractical curved design seen on Bodem products. Some minor design issues; the base of my unit is slightly uneven causing a minor rocking sensation on a hard surface. I overcame this by placing it on a folded disposable kitchen towel. When starting to pour at a greater angle, the lid is ever so slightly lose that it rattles out slightly (perhaps this is intentional?), but the filter is wedged in and the press handle doesn't allow it to fall off, so the lid never falls out and I can hold it on with my thumb thanks to high up the handle design. These issues are so minor I don't feel compelled to return it. The lid has a solid rather than hollow design so you do have to ensure not to overfill. For this same reason, the lid doesn't have a grill so because of it being a little loose, I'm not entirely sure how well it would hold in any stray grinds when the filter starts to wear but it's too early to tell.
